This link below takes us to Arash’s World Podcast where Arash Farzaneh has posted his version of my podcast with him (the podcast is also available here on my blog) where he combines Clickbait and Fast Thinking. This is a good combination. There is no doubt that Clickbait is a result of fast thinking, and an example of Kahneman’s System 1 thinking. Clickbait involves impulsive reactions, which are usually driven by intense internal emotions, which overpower prospective effective systematic thinking.
Let’s briefly discuss clickbait. When using effective systematic thinking, for example, the pros and cons of an intended action are considered before acting. It is important to think through the pros and cons of clicking on something just because the bait looks good. Decide that if you do click that you will think carefully through your reaction to the various items you come upon as to the pros and cons before deciding to act further. Take quite a few seconds to decide. Time is on your side. Watch your thoughts as you do so, in case you have impulsive, elementary but powerful thoughts such as “this looks good.” Ask yourself if the “looking good” comes from the design or color or the probable quality of the item or product.
